This luxury apartment project in Cottesloe won the “best in state” prize – the George Temple Poole Award – at the WA Architecture Awards in 2009. The challenging site slopes in two directions prompting a terraced design solution, which has the benefit of providing each of the apartments with ocean views.

The oversized apartments also enjoy roof gardens and balconies that further capitalise on the seaside outlook.

This terraced arrangement enabled the project to conform to the site’s seven-metre height limit, and the resulting scale and form sits comfortably within its suburban setting.

All of the apartments are accessed via a central vestibule with natural light and ventilation, with individual lift access from the garage.

Inside, they include four bedrooms and carefully detailed kitchens and bathrooms. A series of courtyards and skylights maximise natural light throughout the internal spaces, and facilitate cross-ventilation.

The use of external blades helps to direct the views from inside, and adds to the sense of privacy from surrounding properties.
